CONROE, TEXAS – On August 11, 2024, Rose Pierre asked her friend to drive her to the hospital. She knew her baby would be here soon. However, as it turns out, neither she nor hospital staff would know just how soon. Nurses told Rose it may be hours before her baby arrived, so she should go back home and wait for things to progress.
Rose and her friend, Claudine, realized as they drove down I-45 after leaving the hospital that they were in trouble. Things had begun to progress rapidly – and Baby Emmaliah was coming – no matter where the location.
Claudine called 911, and MCHD Dispatcher Kellie Gonzalez started talking them through what to do next. Meanwhile, Paramedic Krysten Cooper asked her partner, Melissa Green, to let her out of the ambulance, so she could reach Rose across the grass on I-45 with an emergency obstetrical kit. Dispatcher Kellie Gonzalez had altered the crew, the baby was crowning.
Within 2 minutes, Baby Emmaliah made her debut in the arms of Paramedic Krysten Cooper. She was healthy, kicking and screaming her way into the world.
Minutes later, four other paramedics and two fire departments arrived to assist. The mother’s friend, Claudine, was named the baby’s Godmother and cut the umbilical cord. The medical team assessed both Rose and Emmaliah and found both to be healthy before they transported both mom and baby – back to the hospital.
We would like to thank the Pierre family for a very happy reunion.
MCHD would also like to thank all of the first responders involved in Ms. Pierre’s care:
