Expired EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT VOLUNTEERS

September 6, 2023

This form is to sign up as a volunteer for the October 26th State of Texas MCI drill. Before proceeding, it is important to understand that you are volunteering to be a patient or bystander for a mass casualty incident exercise. All of the injuries will be simulated. You will be given specific scripts or injury descriptions. If you are chosen to be a patient, you may be given moulage (theater blood and simulated injuries) and transported by ambulance to an emergency department. All volunteers should wear clothes that can be destroyed, torn, or collected as evidence. University of St. Thomas volunteers/students should wear a base layer swimsuit and bring an extra clothing. If you are transported to the hospital as a patient, you will be given a ride back to the drill site for hotwash and debriefing.

All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and be sponsored by an agency or education institution. You will be asked on the form to list your sponsoring agency. Volunteers may be exposed to loud vehicles, simulated blood, or a chaotic situations. Those with stimulation sensitivities should make themselves known to drill administrators before being assigned a role.

Safety is our top priority. There will be a safety briefing prior to the exercise and you will be given clear instructions on safety procedures. It is very important that you are present and attentive to the exercise administrators. There are strict recording and social media. You will be exposed to sensitive procedures that cannot be videotaped or disseminated online. By proceeding, you agree to these terms. You will be allowed to have a cell phone with you unless your sponsoring agency or institution says otherwise.
